Clubs
Destiny’s boys’ club was organized during our tenth grade year in 1961. Les Amantes, the girls’ club was also organized in 1061. Both clubs emphasized service projects through events such as a UNICEF Drive and serving refreshments and cleaned up at the sophomore-sponsored Valentine dance.
In 1962 the Destiny’s participated in a Books-for-Samoa Drive and contributed magazines to various Honolulu hospitals and culminated an active social year with a banquet in June.
The Uniki described the Destiny’s 1963 by saying: “Energetic,” is the only word that will describe the Destiny’s Hi-Y boys club. This club managed to average two service projects and two socials a month in addition to joining a basketball league in January. Events such as ti-leaf sliding, horseback riding, church visitatios, baking cookies, and building a float for the Junior Chamber of Commerce Cherry Blossom festival were only part of the many activities enjoyed by this club.” The highlight of the year was when the Destiny’s were named the Club of the Year by the YMCA.
The senior girls had two clubs in 1963 - Les Amantes and Carousels. They both engaged in service and social activities such as a canned goods drive, cleaning all desks in Building 3, events with other clubs from the University of Hawaii and other high schools.
