Video Clips from John Chong at this location.  This is a 20-minute video with clips from the luncheon (approximately 13 minutes) followed by clips from the Ghost Tour, Bowling, and the Banquet.
WHO WAS THERE:   John Chong, Miles Nakashima, Ken Chun, Howard Yoshiura, Sandra Ching (Wong), Cathy Coulter (Braun), Clay Ching, Glenn Bauer, Fay Yamashita (Yoshida), Sandra Aoki (Ohara), Sue Ann Cheong (Lau), Dayton Auyong, Vernon Kajikawa, Walter Fong, Carolyn Watanabe (Adler), Dennis Sugihara, Roberta Aisaka, Barbara Centeio (Yamashita), Jinny Okano (Okubo), Linda Mae Onomoto, Jim MacDonald, Mel Choy, Ann Reid (Slaby), Ricky AuHoy, Vince Lee, Cheryl Ho (Olsen), Frank Yap, Naomi Lee (Kim), Jade Young, Steve Murakami, Bernice Young (Ortiz), Darlene Ing (Ching), Diane Hosaka, Meredith Miyaguchi (Omura)

WHAT HAPPENED:
As each classmate arrived, they received a plastic bag and a name tag (first name in 36 point font so they could be read from a distance) with their graduation picture.  The plastic bag contained:  CD of songs popular during the 60’s when we were in school; DVD with three videos from the class web site; ballpoint pen with reunion logo; USB flash drive containing the Who Dat? submissions on the web site; words for UHS Alma Mater and our class song by Lynne O’Connor; reunion tee-shirt (if they purchased one); and a plastic tchotchke with a UHS 1963 REUNION 10/29/63 (manufacturing error in date).

Special thanks to Meredith Miyaguchi (Omura) who made green mochi wrapped in a beautiful presentation presented to each luncheon attendee.  Ono mochi.

Sue Ann Cheong (Lau) was the Reunion Committee member in charge of the luncheon and did a wonderful job as the comments after the luncheon show.

Vern Kajikawa, the leader of the Reunion Committee, served as the MC and tried to start the activity.  We haven’t changed as a class - we kept on talking among ourselves and ignoring the MC.  Vern was finally able to get things started.

Jade Young was asked to provide some words about our classmates no longer with us and to bless the food.  She said some moving and thoughtful words about our classmates and we observed a moment of silence in their memory.

We were seated about 10 to a table among four tables.  Sue Ann had us seating boy-girl-by (just like school) but there was a method to her madness.

To get things started, we had a “scavenger hunt” with each team comprising a team.  One of the items on the hunt was to name our class flower - many of the participants didn’t even know we had a class flower.  The stakes were high for the scavenger hunt because the winning team would get to be the first in the buffet line.

A winning team was identified and we started through the buffet line.  Looking at everyones’ plate, you could tell we haven’t changed from our school days or we’re now determined to get our money’s worth because plates were filled to overflowing!  Fay Yamashita (Yoshida) and Sandee Ching (Wong) walked in with their desserts and caused a hasty exit to the dessert line for shave ice with ice cream and azuki beans.
To provide the opportunity for everyone to have the time to meet everyone, the guys shifted from table to table every twenty minutes - the concept was taken from “speed dating.”  After this was done, Vern asked each person to stand and tell the group one thing they learned about a classmate during this speed dating.  You had to be there to hear the funny things that were said.

A door prize was won by Ken “Bongo” Chun.  He won an M&M candy dispenser containing green M&M’s that contained lettering such as UHS 63; 10/29/13, and 50th Reunion.  Did anyone see Ken sharing the M&M’s?

Miles Nakashima then gave a brief explanation about the class website and solicited input from classmates at any time.  Vern Kajikawa said it best when he said the website was a “living document.”

The luncheon ended at 2:00 p.m. and everyone left with smiles on their faces.
